100 Years of Ohio Authors
Thanks to a generous grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Ohioana is excited to present "100 Years of Ohio Authors" — an event series celebrating a century of Ohio literature! Each event will feature a contemporary Ohio author and their recent book with a historic author and book from each decade over the last 100 years.

100 Years of Ohio Authors: 2015
It's the finale event in our "100 Years of Ohio Authors" series! On June 24 at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom, we’ll explore 2015's historic novel God Help the Child and the legacy of Toni Morrison. Contemporary author and professor Thrity Umrigar will discuss this classic work, her new book Missing Sam, and writing realistic fiction with LC Johnson, Founder and CEO of Zora’s House.

MEET OUR GUEST SPEAKERS:
Thrity Umrigar is the bestselling author of eleven novels, including The Space Between Us, Honor, which was a Reese Book Club pick, and the recent, Missing Sam. She has also written a memoir and four children's picture books. Her work has been published in over 20 countries and in several languages. A former journalist, Thrity has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and other publications. She is the recipient of a Nieman Fellowship to Harvard and the winner of the Lambda Literary award and the Cleveland Arts Prize. LC Johnson is an award-winning writer, entrepreneur, and activist with a passion for uplifting and empowering women and communities of color. In addition to over ten years of experience developing and facilitating entrepreneurship, economic development, and social justice initiatives, she is the founder of Zora’s House—a coworking and community space whose mission is to provide women of color with the clarity, confidence, and connections they need to amplify their authentic voices; grow and contribute their talents; and powerfully transform their lives, careers, and communities. She has been recognized as a community leader, including Columbus CEO’s “CEO of the Year,” Columbus Business First’s “40 under 40,” “Columbus Future 50,” and is a twice featured guest on the #1 nationally syndicated daytime television show The Kelly Clarkson Show. In her non-existent free time, LC enjoys reading Afrofuturistic novels, hiking with her hubby, two kiddos, and mutt, and EATING ALL OF THE THINGS.
