Nomination Form for the 2008 Women's Hall of Fame
 The Ohioana Library has partnered with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) to coordinate the
2008 Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame.
The Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame was established in 1978 to honor women who have made outstanding contributions to our state, nation and world. Women are selected based upon the significances and scope of accomplishments and the extent to which the nominee provides inspiration to others. All nominees must have been born in Ohio or resided in the state for at least five years.
Women selected in 2008 will join more than 350 outstanding members, including Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of
Uncle Tom’s Cabin; Toni Morrison, Nobel Prizing winning author; Betty Zane, Revolutionary War heroine; Barbara Ross-Lee, first African-American woman dean of a college of medicine; Muriel Siebert, first woman to own a seat on the New York Stock Exchange; Judith Resnik, space shuttle astronaut; Maya Lyn, designer of the Vietnam and Civil Rights Memorials; Carol Heiss Jenkins and Tina Bischoff Olympic Gold Medalists; and actresses Ruby Dee, Rosemary Clooney, Halle Barry, Doris Day and Phyllis Diller.
Nomination must be received by May 15, 2008.
The Ohioana Library is also housing the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame records, as they are an excellent
complement Ohioana’s strong holdings on Ohio women, both of which were used extensively to produce the bicentennial book,
Profiles of Ohio Women, 1803-2003 by Jacqueline Jones Royster. More information about the book and read profiles
