Profiles of Ohio Women: 1803 – 2003
The Dedication
This publication is dedicated to the untold numbers of Ohio women who have
formed the fabric of life in this state and in the nation, but whose names and achievements
are neither acknowledged nor celebrated in our history books. Although
Profiles of Ohio Women, 1803–2003 will not remedy these many omissions, it does
symbolize new opportunities for women’s active participation and leadership to be
recognized, honored, and inscribed in their rightful places of respect and celebration
as Ohio moves into its third century of success. We present this collection,
therefore, during the bicentennial celebration as the tip of an iceberg, as a bold and
concrete statement in acknowledgment of generations of remarkable women who
helped to build the State of Ohio and the United States of America.
