Wonderful Town
The musical Wonderful Town premiered in 1953 with lyrics by Betty Comden and
Adolph Green and music by Leonard Bernstein. It is based on the
play My Sister Eileen and follows the story of two Columbus, Ohio sisters, Ruth and Eileen, who come to New York City in search of love and fortune. In the
song Ohio, Ruth and Eileen wonder why they ever left Ohio. The music is still copyrighted. Thus, we can only provide excerpts
Why, Oh why, Oh why, Oh ----
Why did I ever leave Ohio?
Why did I wander to find what lies yonder
When life was so cozy at home?
Wond'ring while I wander,
Why did I fly?
Why did I roam?
Oh, why Oh, why Oh
Did I leave Ohio?
Maybe I'd better go home.
O -- H -- I -- O.
Maybe I'd better go home.

Wond'ring while we wander,
Why did we fly?
Why did we roam?
Oh, why Oh, why Oh
Did we leave Ohio?
Maybe we'd better go
Home.
O -- H -- I -- O.
Maybe we'd better go home.
