The Ohioana Library sponsors several different awards to recognize the accomplishments of
talented Ohioans. Use the links below to review the listings of past winners of the awards by category.
James P. Barry Ohioana Award for Editorial Excellence. Presented to an
outstanding Ohio-based magazine or journal that relates to literature, the arts, the
humanities, or other cultural endeavors. The award is named for James P. Barry, former
Ohioana Library Director.
Ohioana Citations. Awarded in theater, music, art and other fields of the arts and humanities.
Helen and Laura Krout Memorial Ohioana Poetry Award. Presented to an
outstanding Ohio poet who has produced a significant body of work. The award carries with
it a monetary prize made possible by a bequest.
Walter Rumsey Marvin Grant. Presented to encourage Ohio's writers under
thirty years of age who have not yet published a book. This award also carries a monetary
prize made possible by funds from Dr. Marvin's family.
Ohioana Pegasus Award. Presented to an individual for unique or
outstanding cultural contributions.
Ohioana Career Award. Presented to "a native Ohioan whose meritorious career
has added luster and distinction to the heritage of our state and nation."
Florence Roberts Head Book Award. Established by the American Association of University Women, Book
Study Group I, in memory of Florence Roberts Head.
