Ohioana Citation for Music: 2007
Ladd McIntosh, formerly of Akron
Since working on the 1992 film A League of Their Own, Ladd McIntosh has orchestrated more than 100 major films, including all three
Shrek films, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The son of Akron residents and musicians—his father sang and played tenor saxophone and his mother played classical piano—
McIntosh learned to read music before attending kindergarten. He began to play saxophone at the age of nine and by the age of twelve,
was performing with his school band.
He earned a partial scholarship to Ohio State University, where he began writing his own music and put together his own college band, and
where he earned his master’s degree. McIntosh is the recipient of numerous awards, including the American
College Music Festival’s Duke Ellington Composer Award. In May 2007, he received the The Ohio State University School of Music
Alumnus of the Year Award.
