Ohioana Juvenile Literature Book Award: 2006

James Cross Giblin for Good Brother, Bad Brother: The Story of Edwin Booth and John Wilkes Booth
Houghton Mifflin - Clarion Books 2005

This is James Cross Giblin’s second Ohioana Book Award for Juvenile Literature; in 2002, he received the award for The Amazing Life of Benjamin Franklin, and he continues to be a ground-breaking author of biographies for children, presenting balanced portraits of such controversial figures as Adolf Hitler and the Booth brothers of this winning title.

Giblin was born in Cleveland and grew up in Painesville. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Reserve University, now known as Case Western Reserve, and went on to receive his M.F.A. from Columbia University.

He has won several notable children’s book citations from the American Library Association and two Golden Kite Awards for Nonfiction from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. In 1996, he was chosen for the Washington Post Children’s Book Guild Award for Nonfiction for his body of work.
