Ohioana Alice Louise Wood Memorial Award For Children's Literature: 2006
Jacqueline Woodson, formerly of Columbus OH
Jacqueline Woodson is the author of more than 20 books for children and young adults. Not one to shy away from difficult subjects,
she has written about slavery, child sexual abuse, interracial relationships, and the death of loved ones. As several critics have noted, her stories don’t provide simple answers, yet they blossom with strength and hope. Among her honors,
Woodson has won the Coretta Scott King Award for Miracle’s Boys, a Caldecott Honor for Coming On Home Soon,
and the Newbery Honor Medal for Show Way. Most recently she was presented with the American Library Association’s 2006 Margaret A.
Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Woodson, formerly of Columbus, now lives in New York city.
