Ohioana Citation for Music: 2005

Mark Phillips, Athens OH

Mark Phillips was born in Philadelphia, PA, and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown. He then attended Indiana University, where he earned both Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in composition.

His music has been featured at the Blossom Festival, the Chautauqua Summer Music Festival, Ohio University’s Bicentennial Celebration and at the University of Memphis, where his most recent composition, Dreams Interrupted, was performed at their Imagine 2005 Festival.

He has been awarded fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council, Ohio University and the Indiana Arts Commission, among others, and his honors include the Delius Chamber Music Award and the ASCAP Raymond Hubbell Award to Young Composers.
