Tim Bowers earned his BFA degree from the Columbus College of Art & Design He began his career in Dayton, Ohio, creating advertising and editorial illustration. Bowers was recruited by Hallmark Cards and worked for five years at their headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri as a greeting card artist and as an original member of the company’s humor group, Shoebox Greetings. Tim’s first children’s book illustrations were published in The Toy Circus, written by Jan Wahl in 1986. Since then, he has illustrated over 35 additional titles, including New York Times bestsellers, Dream Big Little Pig, written by Kristi Yamaguchi and Dinosaur Pet, written by Neil Sedaka and Marc Sedaka.
Bowers often visits elementary schools to promote literacy and share his experience as an illustrator of children’s books. He has been an adjunct instructor at the Columbus College of Art & Design and a presenter at author/illustrator conferences, covering such subjects as: humor in illustration, self promotion and preparing to enter the book illustration market. Bowers lives with his wife, Keryn, in Granville, Ohio. They have three daughters and a son, and are proud grandparents.
His book illustrations have received many national and state awards and recognition, including the Children’s Choice Award, the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Book award, the Bank Street College Best Book of the Year, the Chicago Public Library’s “Best of the Best” list and the Junior Library Guild selections. Tim Bowers’ illustrations have also been included in the Society of Illustrator’s Annual Art Exhibition, the S.I. Humor Exhibition, The Original Art Exhibition- Celebrating the Fine Art of Children’s Book, and in the Mazza Museum.
